South Seattle Community College
Epilepsy club to start on campus
June 1 09[Mon.]

By Monica Boatwright/b>

It is estimated that 1 in every 10 people suffer from epilepsy. Epilepsy is a condition in which people experience unprovoked seizures that disrupt activity in the brain for a period of time.

Often times, people with this particular condition develop seizures by the age of 25 and face many obstacles in their academic and social lives. Many people with epilepsy feel alone and isolated.

The Epilepsy Foundation Northwest wants those with epilepsy to know they are not alone. The EFNW is looking into starting up a network of college campus clubs to help build awareness and provide support for those in need.

The EFNW is looking at having their Epilepsy Club start up in June. In the meantime, youth program coordinator Steven Lashley is organizing teams for the Walk for Epilepsy that is taking place at Greenlake on June 20.
